London: Scotland’s leading train service has paid more than £400,000 in less than seven months as compensation to passengers for delayed trains.

This huge amount has been given after the nationalization of the train service on April 1. Scotland refunds passengers whose trains are stopped or delayed for at least 30 minutes and who then lose their next train connection.

Scots Lib Dem MSP Jill Reilly said that the £406,686.40 bill as of mid-October has been seen under freedom of information laws and there may be thousands more who have not made a claim.

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is committed to improving train services but has faced chaos since May amid pay disputes. Transport Scotland has also said that it is focused on making the publicly owned Scotland a success.
