New Delhi: Both the Houses of Parliament , Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are likely to continue to witness ruckus locked in a row for the fourth week beginning tomorrow. There seems to be no chance of the ruling and opposition parties going back on their respective stands. The BJP is demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his statement on democracy while the opposition is demanding the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Adani-Hindenburg issue.

Though the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have softened their stand, the rest of the opposition parties led by the Congress have intensified their stance on the demand for the formation of a JPC.

The NCP and tmc have said that it would be better to conduct a Supreme Court-monitored probe on the Adani-Hindenburg issue instead of the JPC.

Addressing the media in Nagpur, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said, “The Committee under the supervision of the Supreme Court will prove to be more suitable for the investigation against the Adani Group than the JPC.” Given the BJP’s strength in Parliament, it would be more logical to accept a Supreme Court committee to look into the Adani issue.

He said the demand for a probe by the JPC could prove futile as most of the members in the committee would be from the ruling party.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, however, claimed that no middle ground has been found so far for the smooth functioning of Parliament and that the budget session is likely to be stalled.

“If the demand for setting up a JPC is rejected, the bills will be passed amidst hue and cry,” he said. The ruling BJP has also hardened its stand.

The party’s national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla demanded that the Congress party should now apologise to the OBC community for Rahul’s remarks about the ‘Modi surname’.
