Chandigarh: SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was booked on July 2, 2021, at Police Station Beas in Amritsar district of Punjab for allegedly violating Covid norms and threatening the staff of a mining contractor, appeared before a court in Amritsar today.

Talking to reporters, he said he had full faith in the judiciary.

He said that whatever decision comes from the court, he will welcome it.

Responding to a query over suspension of Bibi Jagir Kaur from the Akali Dal, Sukhbir Badal ducked the questions.

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal by the court.

These warrants have been issued on July 2, 2021 at Police Station Beas in Amritsar district on charges of violation of Covid norms and threatening the staff of the mining contractor. Besides Badal, non-bailable warrants have also been issued against senior SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Kotkapura firing case.

This is his second appearance in a month. In 2015, the Kotkapura police had opened fire on a mob protesting against the sacrilege case. Sukhbir Badal was the deputy chief minister in the SAD-BJP government at that time and also held the home portfolio.

He was accompanied by senior leaders including Bikram Singh Majithia, Diljit Cheema and many others.

Earlier, the SIT had summoned Badal on September 6 and questioned him for over three hours in connection with the Behbal Kalan firing case.

The Special Investigation Team headed by ADGP L K Yadav is probing both the incidents of firing.

Chandigarh: Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal appeared before the SIT of Punjab Police in Chandigarh on Tuesday in connection with Behbal Kalan shooting case. He went from Akali Dal’s office in Chandigarh to appear before the SIT. During this, veteran Akali leaders including Bikram Majithia were present with him.

He will be questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Punjab Police IG Naunihal Singh. Sukhbir Badal was the Deputy CM of Punjab at the time of firing in Behbal Kalan. The Home Department was also handling the same. Two people were killed in this firing. The SIT wants to know who gave the orders for firing on the Sikhs protesting against the sacrilege.

Firing case, 2 Sikhs were killed

On 1 June 2015, the holy ‘Saroop’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from Gurdwara Sahib in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village, about five km from Bargadi, Punjab. In protest against this, Sikhs were demonstrating in village Behbal Kalan on Kotkapura Chowk and Kotkapura-Bathinda Road.

On 14 October 2015, the Punjab Police opened fire on protesters. Two people had died in this incident. The dead included Gurjit Singh, a resident of village Saranwa and Krishna Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Behbal Khurd. In this case, the Insaaf Morcha is also going on a continuous sit-in in Behbal Kalan for justice.

Will appear before the second SIT on September 14

Sukhbir Badal has also been summoned in the Kotkapura shooting incident. He will appear before the SIT headed by ADGP LK Yadav on September 14. Sukhbir was called by this SIT on August 30. However, he claimed that he didn’t get the summons and went on to appear in the Zira court in the case of blocking the highway. After which the SIT called him on 14 September.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has dissolved the entire organisational structure of the party in pursuance of the recommendations of the party’s poll review committee.

According to the party spokesperson, all the committees including the core committee have been dissolved in which the working committee, all the office bearers and all other wings have also been dissolved.

It may be recalled that the previous day the core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal had discussed and accepted the report of the poll Committee and had also authorised party president Sukhbir Singh Badal to implement the recommendations.

The Committee had recommended that the organisational structure of the party should be dissolved and rebuilt and a new spirit should be instilled in the party in accordance with the values other than panthic and Punjabi interests and in doing so, the sentiments of the lower level workers, cadre and leadership of the party should be taken care of.

The committee had recommended that the organisational structure of the party be restructured afresh to infuse a new spirit into the party. The recommendations emphasised the need to pay special attention to the aspirations of the youth. The party president will now hold consultations with senior colleagues as well as workers and cadre to restructure the party’s organisational structure.

Badal will hold consultations with various Punjabi and Panthic personalities, especially intellectuals, writers, religious and political speakers, opinion makers and representatives of various sections, including farmers, employees, students, teachers, traders, goldsmiths and youth.

Chandigarh: Ridiculing the Akali decision to set up a panel to hold talks with the state’s angry farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday said no overtures could absolve the Badals of their responsibility in thrusting the draconian and undemocratic Farm Laws on the farming community.

Considering that the Badals themselves were at the root of the problem, and the co-conspirators of the Centre’s anti-farmer agenda, the Akalis neither deserve nor can expect any understanding or forgiveness from the farmers, said the Chief Minister.

The Akalis’ apathy towards the farmers was evident from the fact that even now, instead of understanding and relating with the pain of the farmers, Sukhbir was refusing to simply recognise the protestors as farmers and was insulting them by alleging that they owed allegiance to other political parties, including the Congress, said Captain Amarinder.

“If you (Sukhbir) cannot even recognise a farmer when you see one how can you ever hope to gain their trust and confidence,” asked the Chief Minister, adding that only a true son of Punjab’s soil can empathise with its people and their pain.

Captain Amarinder termed Sukhbir Badal’s announcement of suspension of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s election outreach programme and formation of the panel to engage with the farmers as a desperate measure to woo Punjab’s voters ahead of the 2022 Assembly polls. “But the farmers, and the people of Punjab are not fools, and your attempts to befool them with lies will backfire on you,” he warned the SAD president. He added that the state had completely and unequivocally rejected the Akalis, who had first looted them for 10 years in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and then cruelly worked hand in glove with them to impose the Farm Laws on the farmers.

The Chief Minister pointed out that SAD was an integral part of the ruling NDA at the Centre all through the Farm Laws legislation process, with Harsimrat Badal a member of the Union Cabinet which approved the Ordinance that spelt the death knell for the farmers. Their dramatic split from the NDA subsequently was nothing but an attempt at eyewash, he said, adding that the SAD and BJP were clearly still working in collusion against the interests of Punjab.

All that the Badals are interested in is getting back into the saddle by hook or by crook, said Captain Amarinder, adding that having failed in getting restoring the faith of the farmers with their crocodile tears, the Akalis were now pretending to engage with them. “Why did they not talk to the farmers before allowing their partners in the NDA to bring in the black laws?”, he asked, pointing out that even after the Ordinances were introduced, the Badals had refused adamantly to pay heed to the farmers’ concerns and had, instead, vigorously defended the laws for several months.

Terming Sukhbir’s statement on ‘removing all misunderstandings’ by talking to farmer organisations’ as ludicrous, the Chief Minister said that there were no misunderstandings among the farmers about SAD’s role in the entire Farm Laws affair, which was a clear and brazen conspiracy on the part of the BJP to appease their capitalist crony friends at the cost of the farming community.
