Ottawa: The Conservative Party of Canada is considering changing plans for leadership convention in wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

The party was planning to announce its new leader in Ottawa on Saturday, after it started counting over 400,000 ballots that have been cast in the party’s leadership race.

But after the Queen’s death, it will not be possible because there is a wave of mourning in Canada like Britain at this moment.

In a statement on Thursday, Eon Brody, chair of the party’s Leadership Election Organising Committee, said that party will respect the protocols surrounding Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Brody said the committee was considering a reasonable time to announce the results of this leadership race.

Earlier, the party had booked a space at a convention centre in downtown Ottawa and already sold tickets for $150.

Ottawa: Seeking the leadership of the federal Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre won the race among candidates by raising more money in the second quarter of this year to become the next federal Conservative leader.

He has raised more money than his rivals combined.

According to the Elections Canada, Ottawa area MP Poilievre received over $4-million in donations which is far higher than the total $1.3-million donation collected for former Quebec premier Jean Charest.

In results released, Ontario MP Leslyn Lewis collected $709,060 funds followed by $541,706 for Brampton, while Mayor Patrick Brown was disqualified from the contest over allegations of financial irregularities.

Similarly, former Progressive Conservative member of the Ontario legislature Roman Baber raised $504,649 and $363,922 for Ontario MP Scott Aitchison.

Meanwhile, the data of Election Canada reveals that the Conservatives had raised over $4.4-million funds from about 36000 donors between April 1 and June 30 whereas, the Liberals managed to raise about $2.8-million from almost 28000 donors in the same span while almost $1.2-million were received in contributions from nearly 16,000 people by the New Democrats.

Despite falling behind Poilievre’s campaign, the Charest’s campaign said he is still competitive and he has surpassed $3-million and continues to raise every day.

Conservative party processed over $11-million as contributions in the second quarter. Lewis’s campaign manager said her fundraising numbers reinforce across the country.

The result is to be announced on September 10.
