Chandigarh: The Deputy Commissioners of three districts apologised to the Privileges Committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for not giving due respect to the MLAs.

These Deputy Commissioners today appeared before the Privileges Committee and accepted their mistake and also said that this will not happen again in the future.

The committee had summoned deputy commissioners of five districts – Bathinda, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Mohali and Nawanshahr.

A meeting of the Privileges Committee was held today under the chairmanship of The Chairman of the Committee Kulwant Singh Pandori in which the Deputy Commissioners of Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr and Sangrur admitted their mistake.

It may be recalled that the Deputy Commissioners of some districts had violated protocol during the Independence Day celebrations and the MLAs of these districts were not given adequate space in the celebrations.

According to the protocol, the MLA’s seat is attached to the chair of the chief guest of these functions, but there was negligence in this matter in the said districts.

The Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda district had sought an advance exemption from today’s appearance, while the Deputy Commissioner of Mohali did not attend the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner of Mohali has sent a message to the Privilege Committee that he has not received any letter regarding this appearance.

The privilege committee is also writing to the chief secretary in this regard.
