New Delhi: The government has constituted a committee to strengthen the minimum support price (MSP) regime. The government had promised to set up a committee on MSP at the time of the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws eight months ago. Former agriculture secretary Sanjay Agarwal will be the chairman of the committee.

It may be mentioned that the government had made a provision to include three members of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in this committee, but the farmers’ organisation has not given any name for the committee so far. The Agriculture Ministry has issued a gazette notification regarding the constitution of the committee.

The committee included Ramesh Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, CSC Shekhar, agricultural economist from the Indian Institute of Economic Development, Sukhpal Singh from IIM Ahmedabad and Naveen, a senior member of the Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). P. Singh is involved. Among the farmers’ representatives in the committee are National Award winning farmer Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, three members of SKM and five members of other farmers’ organisations – Gunwant Patil, Krishnaveer Chaudhary, Pramod Kumar Chaudhary, Guni Prakash and Syed Pasha Patel.

New Delhi: The central government has decided to increase the age of marriage of women and parliamentary committee had sought the opinion of the people on this.

However, about 95 per cent of the opinions have come to the committee through email in which this plan has been opposed by people.

According to sources in the committee, this could also be a conspiracy to deliberately stop this historic initiative.

In fact, as part of the plan to increase the age of marriage of girls from 18 to 21 years, the central government has given the responsibility of the survey to a committee. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, headed by BJP MP Vinay Sahasrabudhe, has received nearly 95,000 views via email on the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha in December 2021.

Why the survey seems like a conspiracy to stop the bill?

Sources in the committee say that the way people have openly sent opinions is under lease of the government.

“We have received opinions from 95,000 people by email. Out of these, 90,000 emails have the same subject and looking at them, it looks like these mails have been prepared from the same source. It is feared that under this kind of planning, people are being given opinion against this bill so that it can be postponed,” said a senior government official.

Hoshiarpur: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday appealed to the representatives of various farmers’ unions not to hold protests across the state against the draconian farm laws passed by the Centre as the state government and its people have already expressed solidarity with them on this issue.
In his address after laying the foundation stone of Government College at Village Mukhliana in Chabbewal Assembly Constituency at a cost of Rs 13.44 crore, the Chief Minister without mincing any words, categorically said that the state where its entire people stood like a rock with them in favour of their legitimate issues, should desist from holding protests across the state against these black farm laws passed by the BJP led Central Government and thrusted upon them unilaterally even without taking into their confidence.
CM said these ongoing protests at 113 places in Punjab by the farmers were not at all in the interests of the state, which has considerably impacted its economic development and hoped his request would be acceded by the farmers on agitation. He, however said that since these laws have already been rejected in the state assembly and replaced by the state government’s farm laws which were sent to Governor for his accent but to our dismay these have not yet been forwarded to the President of India.
Anything within the purview of his government was done by us promptly, said Capt. Amarinder Singh adding a delegation of various leaders from these farmers unions met him recently at Chandigarh to get the price of sugarcane hiked from Rs. 325 to Rs. 360 per quintal and the same was accepted by me at once.
Expressing concern over the inordinate delay in meting out farmers’ justified demands due to Centre’s apathy, the Chief Minister further said that instead of holding protest in the state, they should mount pressure on Union Government to get these anti farmer laws repealed.
CM also announced to name this upcoming Government College after the name of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the legendary Statesman and Architect of the Indian Constitution. Notably, as the building of the college will be ready by March, 2022, till then the College will start functioning from this academic session in its transit building at Senior Secondary School (Boys), Rajpura Bhaiyan.
The Chief Minister also announced that the entire development works Sri Guru Ravidas ji Memorial at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib would be completed positively before the coming Parkash Utsav of Guru ji.
