Chandigarh : Aiming to eradicate corruption in the state the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign has unearthed a scam in Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office Sangrur and registered a criminal case against the RTA, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), two clerks, two middlemen and private agents. In this case the VB has arrested two employees of this office and a middleman.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said in this scam involvement of RTA Sangrur, MVI, their clerical staff and private persons has come to light who in connivance with each other used to collect bribes from various agents operating in the State for issuing fitness certificates to different types of vehicles without following prescribed rules of the state government.He informed that as per rules of transport department all commercial vehicles had to obtain fitness certificate from the RTA office in order to ply on the roads and all such vehicles along with their documents have to be physically inspected by the MVI in his office.

Revealing the modus operandi he added that these officials in connivance with agents and middlemen were blatantly issuing fitness certificates without any physical verification of vehicles in lieu of bribes ranging from Rs 2800 to Rs 1000 per vehicle depending on model of vehicle. In this way the RTA and MVI were passing the vehicles only on the basis of documents without physical inspections of vehicles that has to be parked at a specified place for inspection on the spot.The spokesperson further added that on the basis of complaints received in this regard a VB team conducted a surprise checking in the office of MVI Sangrur that exposed the scam. In this case the VB has arrested 3 accused on the spot namely Dharminder Pal @ Bunty (Agent) resident of Sangrur alongwith dealing clerk Gurucharan Singh and Data entry Operator Jagsir Singh and bribe money of about Rs 40,000 besides many documents related with this ongoing scam were also recovered.He added that in this case FIR No. 19 Dated 18-08-2022 u/s 420, 120-B IPC and 7 & 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station Patiala against Ravinder Singh Gill RTA, Mahinder Pal MVI, Gurcharan Singh Clerk, Jagsir Singh Data Entry Operator, Dharminder Pal alias Bunty and Sukhwinder Sukhi both middlemen and other private agents.He informed that during the preliminary investigation conducted so far, this scam was going on since last 7-8 years and more than 2000-2500 vehicles were being issued fitness certificates every month which was not possible for a person to physically inspect such large number of vehicles during the period and bribe money of Rs 35-40 lakhs have been collected every month making this scam run in crores. He added that further investigation was under progress and the role of all officials posted in this office earlier would also be probed and strict action as per law would be initiated.

Chandigarh: Aiming to curb the menace of corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) Junior Assistant and Executive Officer red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said the above mentioned accused Harmit Singh was arrested on the complaint of Satnam Singh of Ludhiana.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that accused Harmit Singh, Junior Assistant, LIT was demanding Rs 20,000 for processing and finalising his case under ‘one time settlement’ (OTS) scheme for default payment of booth alloted to him by the LIT in Rajguru Nagar Ludhiana. He told the VB that Harmit Singh has assured him that he would manage everyone upto Executive Officer (EO), LIT and would get his job done.

After verification of his information three teams of Vigilance Bureau EOW, Punjab, Ludhiana were constituted and arrested the accused Harmit Singh, Junior Assistant red handed along with bribe money Rs. 10,000. The spokesperson further added that Ms. Kuljit Kaur, EO, LIT was also present with accused Junior Assistant while taking bribe, so she was also arrested along with Harmit Singh. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Ludhiana and further investigation is under progress.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday nabbed Rakesh Kumar, Class-4 employee of Civil Hospital, Pathankot, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 30000. In this case Bableen Kaur, Drug Inspector, Pathankot was also arrested.

The development came close to the heels of arrests of Government officers/officials and others being made by the Vigilance Bureau on charges of corruption. Pertinently, Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had promised corruption free, transparent and clean administration to people by weeding out the corrupt officers/ employees from it.

Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said that accused Rakesh Kumar has been arrested on the complaint of Pathankot-based Man, who had approached the VB informing that he had applied online for a grant of license to open a medical store at Mamoon. The complainant was later called by Ms. Bableen Kaur, Drug Inspector, who told him to contact Rakesh Kumar, a Class-IV employee in the Civil Hospital, Pathankot, who has previously been posted with her, in this regard.

The complainant met Rakesh Kumar at Civil Hospital, Pathankot on 18.06.2022 who demanded a bribe of Rs. One Lakh, which was later reduced to Rs. 90000, for getting his work done from Ms. Bableen Kaur.

The spokesperson informed that the complainant agreed to give Rs. 30000 as the first installment of this bribe money on 28.06.2020.

The VB team nabbed the accused Rakesh Kumar while accepting a bribe of Rs. 30000 in the presence of two official witnesses. Later on Ms. Bableen Kaur, Drug Inspector, Pathankot was also arrested for her involvement in this case.

He informed that in this regard a case under FIR No. 08, dated 28.06.2022, u/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act at police station VB Range Amritsar was registered and further investigation is going on.

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau has registered a fresh case against former Forest Minister Punjab Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and arrested him at 2 am.

Vigilance officials say that he was involved in a corruption case with DFO, who was arrested a few days ago by the Vigilance. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been arrested after he took the bribe and the revelations made by him.

Meanwhile, a Khana based local Punjabi reporter has also been held in this case.
