New Delhi: The stock of wheat in India’s government godowns will fall by about 13 per cent from the current level by early next month, but this will be enough for the country’s welfare schemes. This claim was made by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food today.

The wheat stock in government godowns for December fell to the lowest level in six years. This comes at a time when India, the world’s second largest producer of wheat, banned its exports in May.

This comes at a time when India, the world’s second largest producer of wheat, banned its exports in May. About 15.9 million tonnes of wheat will be available by January.

According to an official statement, this is more than the buffer stock of 13.8 million tonnes. At present, 1.82 crore tonnes of wheat is available.

The government said that there has been an increase in wheat sowing this year as compared to last year, which will increase the wheat stock in the next procurement season starting from April.
