Talks fail, farmers announce indefinite protest in Karnal; Internet ban extended

KARNAL : As the talks between farmers and Haryana government has failed for the second consecutive day, Samyukt Kisan Morcha has decided to hold an indefinite protest outside the mini-secretariat here on Thursday.

Farmers have been demanding an action against government officials and cops involved in the August 28 lathicharge in which several farmers sustained grave injuries.

Therefore, they have arranged tents, langar, medicines, fruits, tea and other snacks to stay ready for a long haul.

Farmers have also installed CCTV cameras around the protest site to monitor position of the people.

Along with thousands of farmers leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), including Rakesh Tikait, Gurnam Singh Charuni, Baldev Singh Sirsa and Yogendra Yadav, are also camping in Karnal to boost the morale of farmers.

Farmer unions seeking First Information Report against IAS officer Ayush Sinha, who was the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and was seen in a viral video ordering cops for lathicharge on farmers. Sinha ordered cops to “smash the heads” of protesters if they break down barricades.

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has also extended the temporary suspension of mobile internet and SMS service in Karnal district.
