Toronto: Two Edmonton Police Service patrol officers, who arrived to resolve a domestic, were shot and killed while on duty earlier this morning in a west Edmonton apartment complex.

According to the information received,

the suspect shot his mother and she was currently hospitalized in a critical condition. The young male suspect died from a self-inflicted gun-shot wound, an EPS spokesman said.

EPS chief Dale McAfee said the deaths of two members of his patrolling team were heartbreaking. “We didn’t even anticipate such a tragedy.”

“This is an extremely tragic day for the Edmonton Police Service and our city,” stated EPS Chief Dale McFee.

Constable Travis Jordan, 35, and Const. Brett Ryan, 30, were killed in the incident, he said.

Jordan served for eight and a half years and Ryan served in EPS for five and a half years.

Police said that at approximately 12:47 a.m. today, Thursday, March 16, 2023, EPS West Branch patrol members responded to a family dispute call in an apartment complex near 114 Avenue and 132 Street.

Upon arrival, the two patrol members went inside the building, approached the suite, and were shot by a young male suspect. At this time, all indications are that they did not have a chance to discharge their service weapons. The two members were rushed to hospital, where they were both declared deceased, police said.
