Brampton: Three people have been arrested after a year-long investigation into the theft of luxury cars, jewelry, guns, drugs and money in the Peel Region.
Police said they launched the Project Memphis in September last year after three incidents of violent robberies targeting houses with luxury cars parked in the driveway came to light. In one case, the miscreants barged into a house and attacked the members of the house and demanded money from them.
One of the miscreants also fired on the ground to further scare the housemates. They then stole the 2021 model Bentley Bentiaga worth $400,000 on the way home. The stolen vehicle was soon traced and the investigators took possession of it, police said.
A woman musketeer, along with two musketeers, was also identified in the case, who helped in fraudulently registering the restored 2017 model with the Ministry of Range Rover Transport.
Ahmet Ibrahimi, 29, of Kitchener, Anthony Putzu, 30, and Diana Biticki, 28, of Cambridge, have been charged with property acquired by the crime, obstructing the work of a peace officer and preparing forged documents.
During the investigation of the case, the police said that they have uncovered the provincial crime ring. This ring is related to drug smuggling, stolen cars, etc. Project Myra was launched by the police earlier this year and 28 persons were charged in 242 criminal cases.
During the investigation, police recovered 214 stolen vehicles worth more than $12 million. Investigators say some service Ontario employees have also been found guilty of helping to illegally register stolen vehicles.
Peel police said another group came to light during an investigation related to Project Myra. On May 17, 2022, the group entered brampton’s house and carried out the chari. Therefore, two men from Brampton, 24-year-old Ismail Aziroba and 25-year-old Sharif Robinson, are facing multiple charges related to theft of vehicles and weapons.
Police said the two men were out of jail on parole at the time of their arrest. Harris Mohammed, a 24-year-old from Toronto, faces eight counts for crimes related to robberies and weapons.
