Toronto: Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health is re-discussing the possibility of implementing mask rules, especially in schools.
At the monthly Board of Health (BOH) meeting held on Tuesday, Dr. Kate Mulligan presented a resolution saying that at this time we need to take some concrete steps to prevent the spread of the respiratory virus and to protect pediatric care services.
As the mother of a small child, Mulligan said she could not explain how her little one day had to take her to the local emergency room suddenly. She said that if this facility was not available, she could not even imagine what would have happened to them.
She said it was a very scary experience to have such an experience as a parent.
She said she is one of thousands of parents who are struggling with such a situation. She appealed for the re-introduction of mask norms.
At the same time, in her resolution, Kate Mulligan also asked the city’s eminent doctor to seriously reconsider the situation.
Board member Ida Li Preti, who is a trustee of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), said she does not support Mulligan’s resolution because parents associated with her board are strongly against mask rules. But he also said that TCDSB is in favour of mask rules.
