London: The United Kingdom has approved the updated Moderna vaccine. The UK’s drug regulator said on Monday it had approved the updated Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus. It has proved to be effective on the Omicron variant as well as the original form of the virus. The UK became the first country to approve this Moderna vaccine targeting the Omicron variant.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said in a statement that it had approved the vaccine for its booster doses for adults. The Moderna vaccine met the UK regulator’s standards of safety, quality and effectiveness. There have also been indications of a strong immune response against the Omicron variant as well as the original form of the virus.
