Chandigarh: Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP (Slough, UK) met today with the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at his official residence in Chandigarh. During their hour-long meeting, an array of issues pertaining to Non-Resident Indians were discussed. Present also were Raj Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar MLA (Amritsar South) and Dhesi’s father Jaspal Singh Dhesi.
MP Dhesi remarked, “I’m extremely grateful to the honourable Chief Minister for the warmth with which he received me. He, MP Chadha and MLA Nijjar kindly gave their valuable time, within which we were able to exchange views at length about matters affecting the Punjabi diaspora, including anxieties around land dispute cases, blacklisted individuals and long-standing political prisoners, and better laws and policies to attract (rather than decrease) NRI direct investment. We also discussed the importance of increasing cargo, trade and tourism through greater connectivity, especially daily direct flights from London, Birmingham and other cities abroad, to both Amritsar and Chandigarh.”
Dhesi further explained, “The diaspora obviously wants to see the land of their heritage flourish and contribute towards that. Given the CM’s extensive knowledge gained from visits abroad, he assured me that he would do his best to address these issues, which would undoubtedly lead to increased cooperation and progress.”
