London: Boris Johnson has resigned as Britain’s Prime Minister on Thursday. In his address to the nation, he announced that his Conservative Party would elect a new leader and prime minister.

Johnson said: “I’m very proud of my achievements.”

He will remain in office until the new leader is elected,” he said, adding that he is depressed about leaving the best position in the world. He will support the new leader as much as possible.

The leader will be elected at a conference of the Conservative Party. The party’s conference is scheduled to be held in October.

Johnson’s move comes after days of political developments. Several members of Johnson’s cabinet have been resigning since Tuesday.

Boris Johnson was shocked when Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and Health Minister Sajid Javed resigned from their posts on Tuesday. He had said that he no longer trusts the leadership of the Prime Minister and he cannot work for a government which is mired in scams.

Pakistani-origin British national Sajid Javid and Indian-origin British minister Sunak shared their resignations on Twitter on Tuesday at a gap of just a few minutes. After the two leaders, more than 20 ministers and aides resigned from Johnson’s government.
