Washington: The United Nations Security Council held an urgent meeting amid Ukraine crisis after Russia recognised two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine.

Russia has said that it would deploy troops there to maintain peace.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has said his countrymen ‘are not afraid after Russia’s move to recognise the independence of two separatist regions.

Citing it an unprovoked violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, US said that announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin

is also a violation of territorial integrity.

The decision of Putin has also been condemned by the NATO chief. Russia, however, said that Ukraine had been on the brink of a new “Ukrainian military adventure” and it could not be allowed, and court vowed it will not let a ‘new bloodbath’ happen. Russia warned Western powers to ‘think twice’ and not escalate the situation.

Meanwhile, Kenya also makes strong statement opposing the undermining of the sovereignty & territorial integrity of #Ukraine during the emergency meeting of the Security Council.
