New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government and farm leaders have reached an agreement on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident as the government announced compensation and registered a case against accused.
The government has announced that a retired High Court judge will probe the violence and that it will give Rs 45 lakh compensation along with a government job to the families of the four farmers killed in the incident.
The government will also give Rs 10 lakh to those injured in the violence, said Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Awasthi.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that the Lakhimpur incident is unfortunate and appropriate action will be taken against the accused in this case.
Around 8 were reportedly killed as violence erupted here during a farmers’ protest over Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit, administration sources said.
Two FIRs have been registered but police sources said that BJP leader’s son booked under murder charges.
Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi said that a case has been registered against several persons including Ashish Mishra and further investigations is underway.
