Washington: The United States announced a humanitarian aid of $30 million to flood-ravaged Pakistan. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “We stand with Pakistan in this difficult time. “As Pakistan is hit by severe floods, the United States continues to provide support for critical facilities such as food, clean water and safe havens through USAID,” he said.
External Affairs Ministry Chief Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters that around 33 million people have been affected by the floods and more than 1,100 people have lost their lives and more than 1,600 have been injured. “More than one million houses, 7,35,000 cattle (livestock), a major source of livelihood, roads and over 20 lakh acres of agricultural land have been damaged due to the floods,” he said.
Patel said that the partners of the United States Agency for International (USAID) will use this fund to provide food, nutrition, drinking water, sanitation, shelter. According to him, usaid’s disaster management experts arrived in Islamabad (Pakistan) on Monday to assess the damage caused by the floods.
