New Delhi: At least 13 people, including seven children, reportedly killed in a fire accident on Wednesday in a Philadelphia apartment building after smoke detectors failed to go off, officials said.
The Philadelphia Fire Department said that Firefighters arrived at the three-story structure in the 800 block of North 23rd Street in the city’s Fairmount neighborhood at about 6:40 a.m. EST, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.
It took about 50 minutes to control the blaze, the department said.
Eight people managed to escape the building through one of the two exits, and seven children were among those killed, Philadelphia Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy told reporters at a nearby news conference. Officials did not give the children’s ages.
