US dollar smuggling at Amritsar airport: Nearly Rs 6.4 crore seized

Chandigarh: The Customs Department has exposed the smuggling of foreign currency at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar district of Punjab. The customs department has seized about 8 lakh US dollars during checking, which a passenger was trying to take with him to Dubai. The passenger has been detained and is being questioned.

According to the information received, the flight from Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport to Dubai was scheduled to leave around 3.30 am. All passengers were being checked in. Meanwhile, during the X-ray of the goods, the customs department suspected a bag. When the physical examination of the bag was done, a separate pocket was found under it, in which the money was hidden. The passenger was then taken into custody.

8 million US dollars seized

During checking, the customs department seized about $ 8 lakh from the passenger’s bag, whose international value is estimated to be around Rs 6.4 crore.
