Washington: US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris expressed deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi town.
“Our thoughts are with India,” Biden said in a statement.

Congresswoman Grace Meng said she was “deeply saddened” by the death of a large number of people in the Morbi bridge collapse. “I am deeply saddened to learn that many of those killed are children, women and the elderly. India is a dear friend and ally of the United States and we stand with its people in this time of tragedy and sorrow. ’’
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US was deeply saddened by the bridge collapse in Morby. “We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families. The United States stands with its ally India in this difficult time. Jim Risch, ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he would pray for those affected by the bridge collapse in Gujarat. “The United States stands with its ally and friend India in this difficult time. ’’
State Department spokesperson Ned Price said it was saddened by the news of the collapse of a cable bridge in Morbi, Gujarat, on Sunday. “Our thoughts are with the victims of this terrible tragedy and their families. The United States stands with its partner and will continue to support the Government of India. ’’
The over a century-old bridge was reopened to the public five days ago after extensive repairs and renovations. However, the bridge collapsed on Sunday evening and more than 134 people have died in the accident so far.
