Washington: As many as 4.3 million workers in August had quit their jobs, revealed the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.

The survey has been released by the US Labor Department showed that there has been a swift rise in the number of Americans quitting their jobs.

That is 2.9 percent of all employed workers in the US, marking the highest quits rate on record.

Meanwhile, jobs opening fell to 10.4 million in August.

The reports indicate that most of people are afraid of getting infected from the covid-19 virus while there is also a paucity in availability of new jobs at workplace.

Some 892,000 workers in the customer-facing accommodation and food services sectors quit their jobs amid an August surge in COVID cases. That is 157,000 more than the previous month.

However, President Joe Biden said the U.S. economy remains strong while rejecting the jobs report, blaming a retrenchment in hiring on the spread of the delta variant of coronavirus.

The economic is recovering including a $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill earlier this year, he said.
