Vigilance launches probe against former additional DGP Rakesh Chandra for disproportionate assets

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today scaled up the ‘farmhouse’ of retired Additional DGP Rakesh Chandra in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.

Vigilance officials measured this luxurious farm and collected details of the money spent for the construction of the farm and facts about the equipment.

The investigation is being carried out by the flying squad wing of the Vigilance.

Vigilance officials said that after the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in the state, a probe was initiated against Rakesh Chandra in the disproportionate assets case. The vigilance is examining the bank accounts and other assets of this officer.

The farmhouse built in the lap of Shivalik hills in Mohali district has also been made a part of the investigation of the case. Vigilance officials say that the large luxurious rooms in this farmhouse have been built for the stay of the guests and the rent of one room per day is said to be more than Rs 30,000 per day. Chandra’s residence is also on the same farm.

Several irregularities, encroachment of forest land and other alleged irregularities are being reported in the construction of this farmhouse. Vigilance officials point out that a huge gap between income and expenditure is visible during the preliminary investigation. Therefore, further action will be taken after the completion of the investigation.

Sources say that a separate inquiry is being conducted by the Punjab Police against this officer. Even during the investigation of the Punjab Police, it is being claimed that the facts of misuse of office and corruption have come to light.
