Voting in two phases on Dec 1 and 5; results on 8 in Gujarat

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. Elections to the 182-seat Assembly will be held in two phases. The first phase will be held on December 1 and the second phase on December 5.

The results will be announced on December 8 along with the results of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. In the first phase, 89 seats and in the second phase, 93 seats will go to polls.

Gujarat currently has a total of 4.90 crore voters, of which 2.53 crore are male, 2.37 crore female and 1,417 third gender voters. There are 3.24 lakh new voters. A total of 51,782 polling stations have been set up for voting, there will be 182 model polling stations. 50 per cent of the polling stations will be broadcast live. There will be youth polling teams at 33 polling booths.

The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18 next year. Gujarat has a total of 182 seats and the majority mark is 92. Out of 182, 13 assembly constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, and 27 assembly seats have been reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
