Brisbane: India defeated hosts Australia by 6 runs in their first warm-up match of the T20 World Cup. KL Rahul (57 off 33 balls) and Suryakumar (50 off 33 balls) scored 186 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs at the Gabba ground.
Chasing the target, the Australian team needed 16 runs in the last two overs and their six wickets were safe, but the last over by Mohammad Shami proved to be decisive.
Shami, playing his first match since July, took three wickets in the last over and ran out an Australian player. Shami has been included in the World Cup squad in place of injured Jasprit Bumrah.
