Chandigarh: After the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, his song based on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal has been released on Thursday.

In his song, slain singer has mentioned Balwinder Singh Jatana.

Jatana along with his associates had shot dead two officers in Chandigarh and due to the terror, no other officers was willing to perform the work and the work of The Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal in Punjab was stopped at that time.

Jatana, who came with colleagues in a meeting, killed 2 engineers. The incident took place on July 23, 1990.

A meeting was going on at the office in Sector 26, Chandigarh regarding the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal, to release water to Haryana and Delhi.

Jatana, a resident of Ropar along with Balbir Singh Fauji, Jagtar Singh Pinjola and Harmeet Singh Bhaowal reached there and killed SYL’s Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer MS Sikri and Avtar Aulakh.

 

4 members of Jatana’s family killed

Balwinder Jatana was charged with murder. The police then went in search of Jatana. On November 30, 1991, the police arrived at his house. Where Jatana was not found, but the family got involved.

Jatana’s accomplice Nirpreet Kaur claimed that jatana’s grandmother Dwarki Kaur, aunt Jamsher Kaur, sister Manpreet Kaur and nephew Simranjit Singh were burnt alive by the police with the help of one Pohala Nihang at that time. Nirpreet Kaur also confirmed that the engineers were killed by Jatana.

 

Encounter of Jatana

The police then went in search of Jatana. A reward of Rs 16 lakh was announced on Jatana. After this, on September 4, 1991, Jatana along with his accomplice Charanjit Singh Channa was on his way to Sadhugarh village, he saw the police in front of him. They tried to flee but police shot them dead.
