New Delhi: Ahead of the election of a new Chief Minister in Rajasthan, Sunil Jakhar today took a dig at the Congress. “Who will be the Channi of Rajasthan?” asked Jakhar, a former Punjab Congress president. The Rajasthan will now get a new chief minister as incumbent Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is contesting for the post of party president. Therefore, a meeting of the legislature party was held by the party yesterday evening.

Jakhar, who is now in the BJP, was a strong contender to replace the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in 2021, but later Charanjit Singh Channi was made the Chief Minister. Captain Amarinder was then asked by Congress president Sonia Gandhi to step down as chief minister. Jakhar had later claimed that Channi was made the chief minister in his place despite the support of the highest number of MLAs.

Referring to Rajasthan, Jakhar today said he was now recalling the same sequence of events. Sunil Jakhar said it remains to be seen whether the Congress bet on an unknown candidate (dark horse) or chooses a black sheep like Channi as the chief minister. Rajasthan MLAs will leave the final decision to Sonia. However, former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot is publicly claiming the chief minister’s seat. But assembly speaker CP Joshi is also in the race.

Though Gehlot was not in favour of quitting the post, he agreed to quit the seat after Rahul Gandhi announced ‘one person one post’.
