Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday slammed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Supremo Arvind Kejriwal for making defamatory remarks against him to malign his image ahead of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections and threatened to file a defamation case against him soon.
“I have sought permission from Congress high command to file a defamation case against AAP’s Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for posting my morphed picture with cash on his official social media accounts and terming me a ‘dishonest’ person. It is highly condemnable and unacceptable,” CM said while addressing media persons here.
Lambasting Kejriwal, CM said that he is habitual of making derogatory allegations against opposition leaders before the elections and later sought unconditional apologies to them. He had tendered apologies to Akali leader Bikram Majithia, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Congress leader Kapil Sibal and former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and many others for his ‘unverified allegations’
“Similarly, now before the elections, Kejriwal playing
cheap political tactics by launching ‘malicious and dubious’ attacks on me,” Channi said.
“It is unacceptable why he is blaming me for ED’s raid on my relative, even though I have nothing to do with it. If there was any involvement, ED would have arrested me by now. But Kejriwal, without any proof, levelled baseless allegations and crossed all limits by posting my doctored picture with cash on social media,” he said.
CM asked Kejriwal to clear his stand that why he had not posted pictures on social media or issued any statement when his nephew Vinay Bansal was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in 2018 for PWD scam.
Channi also asked Bhagwant Mann to clear his stand that why he had resigned from his post of AAP’s Punjab Chief when Kejriwal sought an apology from Majithia. “Is Majithia now saint for them or they were befooling people of Punjab for their vote bank,” CM Channi said.
CM reiterated that he has no involvement in his nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey’s money laundering case and ED investigation.
