Canada proposes complete freeze on ownership in wake of Texas school shooting

Ottawa: In a move to keeping Canadians safe, Government of Canada has introduced a total ban on the buying and selling of all handguns.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the new measures under new gun control legislation includes Taking away the firearms licenses, Fighting gun smuggling and trafficking, Implementing a national freeze on handguns and Addressing intimate partner violence, gender-based violence, and self-harm involving firearms.

The move of Canadian government came days after a heinous shooting at a Texas primary school, in the neighbouring US, killed 21 people.

“One Canadian killed by gun violence is one too many. I’ve seen all too well the tragic cost that gun violence has in our communities across the country. Today, we’re proposing some of the strongest measures in Canadian history to keep guns out of our communities and build a safer future for everyone.” PM Trudeau said.
