London: It took more than a year for the world to record the first 100 million coronavirus cases and half that time to tally the next 100 million.
The world surpassed the grim milestone of 300 million Covid-19 cases on Friday, as infections continue their stratospheric surge fuelled by the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The World Health Organization said that a record 9.5 million Covid-19 cases were tallied globally over the last week, a 71 per cent increase from the previous 7-day period.
A massive spike in coronavirus infections is being witnessed in India too, where 1,41,986 cases were reported on Saturday.
On the other hand, the country’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage crossed 150 crore doses on Friday.
