PM Modi pays last respects to SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal

Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid his last respects to Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who passed away in Chandigarh. PM visited the Shiromani Akali Dal office in Chandigarh around 1pm. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.

Badal, a five-time Chief Minister of Punjab, died at a private hospital in Mohali on Tuesday. He was 95 years old.

Many state governments of the country have mourned his death. The Bihar government has issued a two-day state mourning order.

During this time, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings across the state. No official functions or official entertainment programmes will be held on these two days.

The Punjab government has declared a national mourning holiday on Thursday as a mark of respect to the five-time chief minister.

According to an official order, all government offices, departments, boards, corporations and educational institutions in the state will remain closed on Thursday. The central government has already declared a two-day nationwide mourning.
