Lakhimpur Kheri: A day after the bodies of two Dalit sisters were found hanging from a tree in Nighasan police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh, police today arrested six accused in the case. Lakhimpur Kheri SP Sanjeev Suman confirmed the arrest at a press conference.
“We have arrested Junaid, Sohail, Hafizur Rehman, Karimuddin, Arif and Chhotu during an overnight search operation after the incident.”
The SP claimed that Junaid and Sohail had an alleged affair with both the deceased sisters.
“As per preliminary investigation, the two sisters had left home on Wednesday afternoon at the behest of Junaid and Sohail. Junaid and Sohail were accompanied by Hafizur Rahman. Junaid and Sohail have confessed that they raped the girls and later strangulated them to death.”
Police said that Junaid and Sohail called Karimuddin and Arif to dispose of the bodies. They later decided to hang the bodies of the two sisters on a tree to make it a case of suicide.
